ETWD Celebrates 60 Years Serving the Community
September 26 marks the 60th anniversary of El Toro Water District (ETWD). From our early roots when a group of visionary leaders came together to bring a more reliable water supply to 125 ranchers, to the present, where we provide safe, reliable drinking water, wastewater and recycled water services to over 49,000 customers, the ETWD board of directors and staff remain dedicated to serving the community for future years to come.
ETWD proudly serves all of the City of Laguna Woods and portions of the cities of Lake Forest, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo and Aliso Viejo.
Among ETWD’s most significant milestones over the past 60 years:
- 1967: Construction of the 224 million gallon El Toro Reservoir
- 1982: Transition from being a wholesale water supplier to a retail water company
- 2002: Increased capacity of the El Toro Reservoir by 52 million gallons. It is the largest covered drinking water reservoir in Orange County.
- 2015: Expansion of the recycled water plant and distribution system
The district’s fall newsletter, linked here, highlights ETWD’s 60th anniversary, keeping wipes out of the pipes, water quality report and native plants.
We thank our customers for being good water stewards and the opportunity to serve you and the community!
