Check Air Quality With AQMD
Two major local wildfires, the Bobcat and El Dorado fires, as well as wildfires in Northern and Central California, are affecting air quality in the South Coast Air Basin, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD).
Currently, according to the South Coast AQMD, the air quality index (AQI) for Central Coastal Orange County and the Capistrano Valley is moderate, within the range between 51 and 100. Air quality is acceptable but for some pollutants there may be a moderate health concern for a very small number of people. For example, people who are unusually sensitive to ozone may experience respiratory symptoms. As of today, South Coast AQMD’s AQI is at 55 for Central Coastal OC and Capistrano Valley.
Overall weather conditions will bring smoke and ash into portions of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Unhealthy or higher AQI levels due to certain particulate matter concentrations are possible in areas of direct smoke impact. Impacts are variable, impacting different parts of the region at different times.
Areas of direct impact and poor air quality may include portions of Northern Orange County, Central Orange County, North Coastal Orange County, Saddleback Valley, Central Coastal Orange County and Capistrano Valley.
